New Delhi, May 23: Former India opening batsman Gautam Gambhir and BJP candidate from East Delhi constituency has emerged victorious in the Lok Sabha Election. Gambhir defeated Congress’ Arvinder Singh Lovely and AAP’s Atishi Marlena among his main competitors.
Gambhir in a tweet said, "Neither it’s a ‘Lovely’ cover drive and nor it is an ‘Atishi ballebazi' It’s just the BJP’s ‘Gambhir’ ideology which people have supported. Thanks a lot to all the @BJP4India and @BJP4Delhi team-mates for getting this mandate. We won’t fail people’s choice."
In March this year, Gambhir had joined BJP. He also stoked controversy for his criticizing remarks on social media platform Twitter in the recent times.
In what was a debut on a whole new platform, Gambhir has registered a colossal victory. Having gained 52.2% votes, Gambhir has accumulated more than double the votes from the next candidate in Lovely (25.8).
The fact that Gambhir received in excess of three lakh votes in itself speaks highly about the expanse of his victory.
