This incident hinted towards their secret affair, Surprisingly, Director Yash Chopra reportedly confirmed their relationship in an interview.
Rekha's surprise entry at Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh's wedding caught the attention of everyone as she was wearing sindoor and mangalsutra. According to a leading daily, "Jaya tried to keep a stoic front for a long time, but eventually, she had to bend her head and let the tears roll down."
Reportedly, after this incident, Jaya invited Rekha home for dinner and mentioned indirectly that she will never leave her husband in any case. This was a turning point for Rekha that she had two choices- to marry Amitabh or stay single!
While interacting with media in Filmfare magazine(1984), Rekha expressed on Big B's refusal to their secret relationship."Why should he have not done it? He did it to protect his image, his family, his children. Why should the public know of my love for him or his love for me? I love him and he loves me- that’s it! If he’d reacted that ways towards me in private, I would have been very disappointed.” she quoted.
Rekha added, “Mr. Bachchan is still old-fashioned. He doesn’t want to hurt anybody, so why hurt his wife?”
Till date, Amitabh has never admitted his relationship with Rekha. The pair was last seen on the big screen with the blockbuster film,'Silsila'. Also, Rekha has been wearing sindoor for a long time and says that it suits her.
Even now, Rekha is in awe of the Big B and showed her affection for him in an interview by saying,“Why? I hope not. Mr Bachchan is one of the best things to have happened in my life. The best teacher, the best guru. Well, I’ve chosen to learn as much from his off-camera.. as from his on-camera demeanours.”
