BIG NEWS..Aadhaar data LEAKED to CIA, hints WikiLeaks

New Delhi: Have the first fears come true? Day after SC decided on Right to Privacy, a WikiLeaks report says that the American intelligence agency CIA has access to the entire Aadhaar data.  The report claims that CIA is using system developed by the US IT company Cross Match Technology for cyber spying, and this may resulted in breach of Aadhaar data.   The fears of data leakage have risen as Cross Match provides biometric solution to Unique Identification Authority of India, the agency incharge of Aadhaar "Have CIA spies already stolen #India's national ID card database?," WikiLeaks tweeted on Friday. Then, within few minutes, it tweeted: "Has the CIA already stolen India's #Aadhaar database?". The tweets were based on an article in geopolitical magazine Great Game India.

However, Indian officials denied data breach, They said that report is not a WikiLeaks "leak", but on a website report. Officials claimed that  the data cannot reach Cross Match as data is collected in encrypted form  which is then transferred to Aadhar servers. . "The reports do not have any basis in fact. Aadhaar data is safely encrypted and is not accessible to any other agency," Times of India quoted the official sources as saying.    "The OTS (Office of Technical Services), a branch within the CIA, has a biometric collection system that is provided to liaison services around the world — with the expectation for sharing of the biometric takes collected on the systems. But this 'voluntary sharing' obviously does not work or is considered insufficient by the CIA, because ExpressLane is a covert information collection tool that is used by the CIA to secretly exfiltrate data collections from such systems provided to liaison services," WikiLeaks  said on its website.  News24Bureau
