Srinagar: Three militants were killed in a fierce gun battle that broke out in Kashmir’s Bandipore district on early Thursday morning.
The encounter broke out when suspected militants, who were hiding in Bandipore’s Hanjin area, opened fire after being trapped by a search party of security forces.
According to The Greater Kashmir, the three slain militants were a part of a 5-member Lashkar-i-Toiba team, stationed in Bandipore after the security forces launched a massive operation to trap them last October.
Hanjin town observed a complete shutdown in wake of the ongoing encounter.
Preliminary reports suggest that the residents pelted stones at the security forces, in an attempt to help the hiding terrorists escape.
Meanwhile, the bodies of militants have been removed from the debris, however their identity has not been ascertained yet.
