Lucknow, Oct 5: In an open challenge to UP CM Yogiadiyanath and UP DGP, many UP Police cops tied black ribbons on Friday to protest against the arrest of murder accused constable Prashant Chaudhary. Chaudhary is prime accused in the murder of Apple executive Vivek Tewari. Dissenting against the senior officials, the cops observed 'Black Day' despite instructions not to do so. Top brass of the UP Police had warned the cops of strong action in case of protests.Ignoring orders, many junior rank cops were openely seen flaunting black ribbons on their arms. Pictures of their protest were ciruclated on Facebook and WhatsApp groups.
Protests happened despite the Drector General Police (DGP) OP Singh calling the accused cop a "rogue in uniform". Singh had said that cops likes Chaowdhary deserve strictest possible punishment. In a bid to prevent protests, UP Police arrested constable Avinash Prakash Pathak (who is general secretary of non-gazetted employees welfare association), and constable Brijendar Yadav (chairmain of the group which gave the call to observe ‘black day’) from Mirzapur and Varanasi.Posted at 37 PAC, Kanpur city, Avinash had gone on leave to Mirzapur to meet his relatives."Services of constables Avinash Prakash Pathak and Birjendar Yadav have been terminated and the two have been arrested. A departmental inquiry has been initiated against constable Sarvesh Chaudhary posted in Etah," said DGP PRO Vivek Tripathi. "We are keeping strict vigilance on social media, as scores of morphed pictures of cops with black ribbon on arms are being shared and circulated. Details of those cops are been taken out who are found wearing black bands during duty. Strict action will be taken against them,” he added. In latest development, 3 more constables were suspended and 3 station incharcharge removed for taking part in protest.Constable Sarvesh Chaudhary of Etah police has been suspended for posting a video against seniors for letting down their juniors.News24 Bureau
