New Delhi: Major Indian auto company Mahindra and Mahindra is working on many new passenger vehicles. The company is targeting to launch eight battery electric vehicles out of the upcoming 13 new cars.
All these passenger vehicles are likely to be launched by 2027. But out of all these cars, the car that has started making headlines right now is the electric version of the Mahindra XUV300.
Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director of Mahindra Group's Auto and Farm Sector, indicated that this EV could be named as XUV400.
In a press conference, Jejurikar reportedly said that the automaker is considering about renaming the XUV300 EV as the XUV400, but nothing has been finalized yet.
Earlier, it was planned that Mahindra will bring a new mid-size SUV, which will be known as the XUV400 and will be positioned between XUV300 and XUV500. The mid-size SUV, codenamed the S204, was originally planned to be built on Ford's B-platform.
The car was targeted at the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. However, since the Mahindra and Ford partnership did not work out, the XUV400's name is now being considered for the EXUV300.
Mahindra showcased the EXUV300 at the Auto Expo 2020 and it grabbed a lot of attention from the audience. The production variant of the Mahindra EXUV300 is expected to be based on the Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture (MESMA) platform. It will come as the automaker's first all-electric SUV.
The production version of Mahindra EXUV300 will be available in two different variants - the 350V and the 380V. The lower-spec model will compete with the Tata Nexon EV, which is by far the best-selling electric car in India. The high-spec variant, on the other hand, will lock horns with the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona EV.
