In Jammu and Kashmir, State Police Chief Dr S P Vaid has been removed and placed as Transport Commissioner of J&K. Incumbent DGP Prisons Dilbag Singh has been ordered to hold charge of Director General of J&K police in addition to his own duties.The order to this effect was issued by principal secretary Home late Thursday.According to sources Dr S P Vaid has been removed following embarrassing situation to J&K Govt after Hizbul Mujahideen militants recently abducted around a dozen persons including cops and their family members in retaliation to the detention of father of Hizbul Commander Riyaz Naikoo and several other family members of active militants by police in south Kashmir districts.Later, police released all the relatives of militants including 70-year-old father of Riyaz Naikoo to secure the release of all abducted cops and their relatives.PDP President Mehbooba Mufti and several other mainstream political leaders had publicly opined through their tweets that families on either side should be kept away from the fight between militants and the security forces including Police.An audio statement of Hizbul Commander Riyaz Naikoo issued through social media networking sites, had warned police personnel not to touch or involve family members of any militant and desist from putting them to inconvenience. He clearly threatened to kill any family member of police personnel in retaliation to the harassment or detention of family members of any militant in future.He had urged them to remain away from counter militant operations and attend to normal policing work.After release several detainee family members of police officials including two DSP rank officers, militants released video statements of cops and their families appealing Police Chief not to drag family members of active militants into the ongoing fight between militants and the security forces.
