Finally the famous Kathua case has been transferred to the Pathankot Court for a free and fair trial
New Delhi, May 7: The Supreme Court on Monday transferred the trial in the rape and murder of an eight-year-old nomadic girl in Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir to Pathankot in Punjab.Earlier, J&K govt submitted to Supreme Court that it was ready for a fair trial of Kathua rape case in the state.J&K chief ministr Mehbooba Mufti has repose full faith in the Jammu and Kashmir police force.The Kathua rape victim parents had earlier said that they d not want a CBI poble in the case as they feared that once the culprits were free, they won't spare them.While hearing the plea of rape victim's family, the Supreme Court said that fear and fair cannot be allowed to exist together.
Supreme Court after transferring the Kathua case to Pathankot Court said day to day hearing would take place in the matter. In-camera proceedings would be held. Next date of hearing in the case is July 9.Supreme Court has allowed J&K government to appoint public prosecutor in Pathankot Court and also asked J&K govt to provide security to the victim's family, their lawyer and witnesses. The Supreme Court has shown full faith in the state investigations and therefore has not transferred the case to the Supreme Court.During the hearing on Monday, the Jammu and Kashmir government told the top court that it was ready for a fair trial of Kathua rape case in the state.The state government also said it opposed the transfer of the case to another state.The court will next hear the case on July 9.
