Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh), July 24: A town in Chhattisgarh has come up with a novel way to carry out the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'.
The municipal corporation in Ambikapur has set up a ‘Garbage Café’ that provides free food to those who deposit plastic waste with them.
The move is a hit with ragpickers and homeless people in the town.
According to the scheme by Ambikapur Municipal Corporation, every kilo of trash deposited will earn a free lunch while half a kilo will earn a free breakfast.
“We are providing free food to those who bring 1 kg of plastic to us, it will help us in keeping the city clean,” Ambikapur mayor Ajay Tirkey was quoted as saying by ANI.
The Ambikapur Municipal Corporation, which has earmarked a budget of ₹550,000 for the cafe, also plans to build shelters for the homeless people in the town at a later stage.
The plastic waste which is being collected will be used to build roads.
