New Delhi: Explosive Australian cricketer David Warner has started the New Year with a bang. On the opening day of the Sydney Test match against Pakistan, Warner smashed 100 runs of 78 balls to become the first batsman to score 100 before lunch on first day of a test match in Australia.

The 78-ball century is the fastest in Sydney. Warner broke his own record of 82 ball-100 here. The left-handed batsman reached his fifty in just 41 balls in the opening session as he blasted 10 boundaries in 57 minutes.

Warner is only the fifth batsmen in the history of Test cricket to score a hundred before Lunch on Day 1. Victor Trumper (1902), Charles Macartney (1926), Don Bradman (1930) and Majid Khan (1976) are the other four. (News24Bureau)
