New Delhi, News24 Bureau, Oct 6: The Election Commission is all set to announce the dates of state elections in five states namely Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Telangana. here's all you wanted to know about these crucial elections which are being seen as a precursor to the General Elections:1. Election Commission will announce the dates of elections in five states shortly. At around 12.30 PM the dates of elections in these five states will be announced. 2. The Election Commission was looking at the possibility of holding assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Telangana together and the poll process in the five states could be completed by the second week of December.

There have been speculation in some circles that the Lok Sabha elections, scheduled for April-May 2019 may be advanced to November-December 2018 so that they can be held simultaneously with Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Telengana and Rajasthan.4. The term of the Mizoram Assembly will end on December 15.5. The terms of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan assemblies would end on January 5, 2019 January 7 and January 20, 2019, respectively.6. The CEC explained that out of 17.5 lakh paper trail machines, 16 lakh would be in place before November. The remaining 1.5 lakh paper trail or voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines would be delivered by the end of November.7. According to an earlier report while Chhattisgarh could have polls in two phases, in the remaining states the exercise could be completed in a single phase. Stepping up preparations for conducting assembly elections in Telangana, the Commission had announced earlier that the final voter list will be published on October 8.8. Earlier elections were scheduled only in four states, but then the asembley of Telengana was dissoled early and the CEC decided to club election in the sate along with these four states.9. These state elections are crucial as they are being seen as the precursor to the Lok Sabha polls in 2019.10. While BJP is ruling in three states namely  Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan; it is eying to grab power in other two ststes namely Telengana and Mizoram.
