World Malaria Day 2023: Malaria is a dangerous disease caused by mosquitoes, which kills millions of people every year. Malaria is caused by the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito, which breeds in dirty water. To make people aware of the seriousness of Malaria, ‘World Malaria Day’ is celebrated every year on 25 April.
This day was celebrated for the first time in the year 2008. Mosquitoes only bother during the rainy season, but their outbreak increases significantly during summer as well. These small-looking mosquitoes spread most of the diseases. Because of these, it becomes difficult to go out and sit on the balcony even if you want to in summer. So to avoid them, keep cleanliness around, wear full sleeve clothes, as well as plant some outdoor and indoor plants which are very effective in driving away mosquitoes.
Here are 6 plants that repel mosquitos naturally:-
1. Marigold
Marigolds, an easy-to-grow annual flower, emit a smell that deters mosquitoes. In order to prevent insects, they should be planted in containers and placed close to your terrace or front door.
2. Citronella Grass (Lemon Grass)
Citronellella grass is a natural ingredient that, because of its distinctive smell, has become one of the most popular insect repellents. This low maintenance plant would be best placed in large containers because it could not tolerate frost but if planted directly on a sunny area of the ground is able to survive warmer climatic conditions.
