International trips open doors to countless adventures and fills us with wanderlust. People usually take flights for international travel, but what if we tell you that a simple train ride can also take you abroad. Yes, there are countries that you can visit easily by travelling on trains.  There are several railway stations in India which offer cross-border travel options.

These stations cater travel to neighboring countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan.

Haldibari Railway Station

Haldibari Railway Station is located in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal. Its location near the India-Bangladesh border facilitates cross-border travel. The station is just 4 kilometers from the Bangladesh border, and allows easy travel to Bangladesh. The Haldibari – Chilahati rail link being made functional from 17 December 2020 is the 5th rail link between India and Bangladesh.

Jaynagar Railway Station

This railway station offers travel to Nepal. Jaynagar Railway Station is located in Madhubani district of Bihar. Its location near the Indo-Nepal border makes it a perfect railway station to board a train from. The Jaynagar–Janakpur–Bardibas railway line is a cross-border railway line between India and Nepal.

Petrapole Railway Station

If you wish to travel to Bangladesh, then Petrapole railway station is one of the stations you can consider. It is located in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. It is one of the busiest border railway stations. It is popular among people traveling for religious, cultural, and personal reasons.

Singhabad Railway Station

This is another railway station that facilitates cross-border travel between India and Bangladesh. It is located in West Bengal’s Malda district. Apart from passenger travel, it eases exchange of commodities between the two countries.

Jogbani Railway Station

It is situated in the Araria district of Bihar, near the Indo-Nepal border. One can easily reach Nepal by foot from here. This station facilitates cross-border travel between India and Nepal.

Radhikapur Railway Station

It is located in North Dinajpur district of West Bengal and facilitates easy travel to Bangladesh.

Attari Railway Station

Attari Railway Station is located near the border town of Amritsar in Punjab. It is the terminal station for the Samjhauta Express, which connects India to Pakistan. However, this train service has been suspended since 2019.

Travel To Bhutan

While it is not possible to reach Bhutan by train but visitors can take an alternate option. You can reach stations like Siliguri, Hasimara, New Alipurduar and then take a taxi or bus to reach Bhutan.
