What’s The Best Way To Store Mangoes-

These days, people are buying boxes of mangoes from the market and incorporating them into their meals in various ways. Some enjoy eating them sliced, while others make lassi, mango shakes, and more. From children to adults, everyone loves mangoes. If you also buy a lot of mangoes in one go, it’s important to know how to store them properly. Without proper information, some people store mangoes like other fruits, causing them to spoil quickly or become harmful to health. Here’s how you can store them the right way.

Do Not Store Mangoes In The Fridge-

Avoid storing them in the fridge. Many people make the mistake of placing this fruit in the fridge, but this prevents them from ripening properly and diminishes their flavour. Experts warn that refrigeration can reduce the fruit’s nutrients and alter its taste. Keep them out of the fridge for the best flavor and nutritional value.

Correct Ways To Store Them-

  1. When buying them, choose ones that aren’t fully ripe. This way, they won’t all ripen and spoil at once, allowing you to enjoy ripe mangoes daily. Additionally, check for any rotten mangoes in the bunch, as one bad mango can ruin the rest.
  2. After bringing them home, wash them to remove any chemicals, then wrap them in brown paper and place them in a wooden basket. This method allows the it to ripen naturally at the right temperature, enhancing their flavor.
  3. Avoid placing mangoes in direct sunlight or overly hot areas. Instead, store them in a dark, cool spot like under the bed.
  4. Select ripe mangoes early in the morning and chill them in the fridge for two hours. Then soak them in water for 4 to 5 hours before eating. This method keeps them cool and ensures they are safe for your health.
  5. If you have many ripe mangoes, store them in the fridge for 4 to 5 days. This will halt the ripening process and prevent spoilage.
  6. To preserve them for several months or up to 15 to 20 days, peel and cut them, blend them in a mixer, and freeze them in ice cube trays stored in an airtight container. This method allows you to enjoy for long after they are out of season.
