Punjabi Style Khichdi Recipe: Makar Sankranti festival is celebrated every year on 14 January. This festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm all over India. On the day of Makar Sankranti, people take an early morning bath and worship the Sun God. On this day things made of sesame and jaggery are consumed and they are also donated. In many places, this festival is also called the festival of Khichdi.

Punjabi Style Khichdi Recipe: Ingredients
- 1 cup rice
- 1/2 cup chana dal
- 4 cups water
- 1 onion
- 1 tsp ginger grated
- 2 green chilies finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes finely chopped
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- Salt as per taste
Ingredients for Punjabi Khichdi Tadka
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 small piece cinnamon
- 2 cloves, 4 whole black pepper
- 2 whole red chili
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 4 tbsp ghee
Recipe
- To make Khichdi, first prepare it.
- Soak gram dal 4 hours before and rice 1/2 hour before.
- Now put the cooker on the gas and put some ghee in it and heat it.
- When the ghee becomes hot, add chopped onion and fry it, and when it turns brown, add tomatoes, ginger and green chilies.
- Cook all these things while stirring well, add salt and turmeric along with them so that the tomatoes melt quickly.
- When your masala is ready, add lentils and rice to it and close the lid of the cooker after adding water.
- Now you have to give 3 whistles in this khichdi and then turn off the gas.
- Your Khichdi is ready, now apply Punjabi style tadka to enhance its test.
- For this, you have to keep a pan on the gas and heat it well.
- Then heat it by adding 2 spoons of ghee and then add all the tempering ingredients one by one.
- When all these start crackling and a nice aroma starts coming, then put this spice on top of the khichdi.
- Your Punjabi style khichdi is ready, pour ghee over it and serve it hot.
