Pongal 2023: One of the most significant Hindu festivals in India is called Pongal. The harvest festival lasts for four days and is a big deal in Tamil Nadu, a state in southern India. It will be observed on January 15, 2023, this year. Pongal signifies the start of Uttarayan, or the season when the sun starts moving north.
To commemorate new beginnings, people get up early on the first day of the festival, clean their homes, throw out their old belongings, and burn them in a fire. Additionally, much as with any other Indian holiday, Pongal celebrations would be lacking without a delectable dessert. Here, we offer you a recipe for paal payasam that is perfect for the celebration.
Pongal 2023 Paal Payasam: Ingredients
- 50 gms rice
- 1 litre milk
- 5 gram cardamom powder
- 100 gms sugar
- 50 ml ghee (clarified butter)
- 50 gms cashew nuts
- 25 gms raisins
Method
1. Wash the rice and soak it for half an hour.
2. Soften the rice by cooking it in milk.
3. Mix sugar and cardamom powder together until the sugar is dissolved.
4.Add the cashew nuts to the ghee that has been heated.
5.Add the raisins and continue cooking for a minute after the cashew nuts
6. Pour on the rice mixture and serve warm.
