Mother’s Day 2023: History
Every year on the second Sunday of May, This day is observed. It was first observed in 1908 by a woman by the name of Anna Jarvis, who hosted a memorial service for her mother in Grafton, West Virginia’s St. Andrews Methodist Church. When her mother passed away in 1905, she began a campaign to have This day recognised as a national holiday in the US. Her plea was first turned down, but six long years later, in 1911, the US began celebrating This day as a holiday. The second Sunday in May was declared a national holiday for mothers by Woodrow Wilson in 1941.
