Men’s Health: Common savoury fruit tomatoes, which are utilised in many cuisines and beverages, are a veritable gold mine of healthy components. One of the most significant is the antioxidant lycopene, which has been linked to a number of crucial health advantages for humans, including a decreased risk of heart disease and, in some studies, certain types of cancer. Additionally, tomatoes are a fantastic source of folate, potassium, vitamin C, and vitamin K.

A diet high in tomatoes may now help lower the risk of prostate cancer, according to a recent study. According to the study, males who ate more than 10 pieces of tomatoes per week may have a lower risk of acquiring prostate cancer. The prostate gland, a little organ the size of a walnut that secretes seminal fluid, is the target of the malignancy.

Eat over 10 Portions of Tomatoes to lower the risk of Prostate Cancer

In the journal “Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers and Prevention,” the study was released. According to the report, prostate cancer is the second most common disease in men diagnosed worldwide, and rates of this malignancy are greater in industrialised nations than in developing nations. According to the study, this might be because to westernised foods and lifestyles. Researchers from the Universities of Bristol, Cambridge, and Oxford carried out the investigation. They studied the diets and lifestyles of 1,806 prostate cancer patients who were 50 to 69 years old. These were contrasted with the diets and lifestyles of 12,005 men who were cancer-free.

There are a number of dietary components that have been linked to lower prostate cancer chances, including baked beans and tomato-related items. This is assumed to be because tomatoes contain lycopene, which fights off poisons that damage cells, and consumption of more than 10 pieces of tomatoes per week was found to cut prostate cancer risks by 18%.

Vanessa Er, from the School of Social and Community Medicine at the University of Bristol and Bristol Nutrition BRU, who led the research said, “Our findings suggest that tomatoes may be important in prostate cancer prevention. However, further studies need to be conducted to confirm our findings, especially through human trials. Men should still eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, maintain a healthy weight and stay active.”
