Kiss Day 2025: The world is celebrating Valentine’s week and February 13 marks the ‘Kiss Day.’ Kissing is considered as a way to show affection and has evolved as a form of bonding across human history. Who first kissed in the world and its exact origins are lost to time and no one can answer it with certainty. However, research carried by some of the foreign Universities, such as Copenhagen University has answered this.
What Does The Research Suggest?
The documents studied during the research suggested that kissing became common in public about 1,000 years ago. However, kissing on the lips was a common practice in the ancient Middle East around 4,500 years ago, stated the researchers. But, it is important to note that different studies make different claims regarding the first kiss in the world.
Some Researchers say that it originated long ago in Mesopotamia. The first recorded kiss in history comes from ancient texts, with examples found in Sanskrit writings from around 1500 BCE. In Vedic tradition, a father would kiss the newborn’s head thrice.
The Greeks and Romans also depicted kissing in their literature. Some documents also suggest that kissing was common in South Asia around 3,500 years ago. Moreover, animals like bonobos and chimpanzees have also been found kissing.
Notably, a newspaper article in China in 2013, claimed that the first kiss in the world took place during the Han Dynasty in China. But, there is no evidence to support this claim.
