Significance Of Holika Dahan Timing
According to Hindu scriptures ideally Holika Dahan should be performed during Pradosh Kaal (evening after sunset) when Purnima Tithi (full moon) is active and the presence of Bhadra (an inauspicious period) must be carefully considered when planning the ritual because Bhadra occurs during the first half of Purnima Tithi, and performing auspicious activities during this time is not recommended.
How Is The Holika Dahan Muhurta Decided?
- The ideal time to perform Holika Dahan is during Pradosh Kaal when Purnima Tithi is active and after Bhadra has ended.
- If Bhadra continues into Pradosh Kaal but ends before midnight, wait until Bhadra concludes before performing the ritual.
- When Bhadra continues beyond midnight, the ritual should be conducted during Bhadra Punchha (the concluding phase of Bhadra), which is considered less inauspicious.
- Avoid performing Holika Dahan during Bhadra Mukha (the initial phase of Bhadra) as this is believed to bring misfortune to individuals, communities, or to the entire nation.
