Guru Ravidas Jayanti celebrated on Magh Purnima, the full moon day in the month of Magh. In India and other countries, this important holiday is widely observed, and as part of the customs, devotees take a holy dip in the river.
This year the auspicious timing to take a dip in the river. Purnima Tithi began on Tuesday 6.55 pm and will end on Wednesday 7.22 pm. This year celebrates Guru Ravidas’ 648th birth anniversary, which will be observed on February 12.
Guru Ravidas was born in the village of Seer Govardhanpur, Uttar Pradesh, around 1377 CE. He is also known as Raidas, Rohidas, and Ruhidas. Despite his poor beginnings, he spent his life pushing for equality and human rights. His poems are contained in the Guru Granth Sahib. Aside from poetry, he was a mystic and devout follower of Lord Krishna. Notably, Meera Bai saw Guru Ravidas as her spiritual guide.
