Besan Chilla is a savory, protein-packed pancake made from gram flour and loaded with vegetables. It’s a perfect breakfast or snack option that is both healthy and satisfying.
Ingredients
- 1 cup besan (gram flour)
- ½ cup water (adjust as needed)
- 1 small onion finely chopped
- 1 small tomato finely chopped
- 1 green chili finely chopped
- ¼ cup grated carrot (optional)
- ¼ cup chopped spinach or coriander leaves
- ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
- ½ teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Oil or ghee for frying
Step By Step Guide
Prepare The Batter
Combine the besan with water while mixing in a bowl while constantly stirring to prevent lumps from forming. Then mix all veggies including onions, tomatoes, green chili, grated carrots and spinach/coriander together with cumin, turmeric alongside red chili powder and garam masala and salt. Mix all ingredients until they become uniform.
Cook The Chilla
Use a non-stick tawa on medium heat to grease with a small amount of oil or ghee. Put a small batch of batter on the hot pan while using a spatula to make an even circular shape. Scorch the pancake on both sides for 2-3 minutes and becomes golden brown.
Serve & Enjoy!
Serve the hot Besan Chilla with green chutney or yoghurt as an accompaniment. Optionally, garnish with a few fresh coriander leaves or a sprinkle of chaat masala for extra flavour.
