You must have noticed red lines on the leaflet of medicines that you picked up from the pharmacueticals. However, have you ever wondered why these packets have a red line drawn on it?

Seeing the red line is so common that many concluded that the red lines are the part of the design of the leaflet but it is not true.

Even if common people do not know about it, it becomes important for you to know the meaning of this red colored line. This information was also tweeted by the Health Ministry.

These red lines do have a seminal purpose. The Health Ministry informed that the medicines which has the red lines should be taken only on the advise of doctor. It alerted that these medicines should not be consumed without the doctor’s written a prescription.

Apart from them, even medical stores are not allowed to sell these medicines without a doctor’s prescription.

Things You Must Know About Red-Stripped Medicines 

  • Antibiotics, mood swings, depression and sleep are prominent elements in the medicines having the red-colored strip on their packets. Hence, these medicines should be taken cautiously and only on the recommendation of the doctor.
  • At the same time, you will see that NRx is written on the back of the leaflets of these medicines, which means that these medicines are intoxicating and can be sold only by licensed people.
  • On the other hand, Rx is also written on the back of the packet of some medicines, which means that the patient can consume this medicine only on the advice of the doctor, hence you should take a special note of this to avoid any unnecessary medical complications.
