New Delhi: Depression is one of the common problems now-a-days among this generation. We are often told that depression is caused due to over-tinking or some kind of mental pressures. But do you know what actually triggers this disturbance to mental health? It’s your hormones. Yes, you read it right.

If you struggle with sadness, the source may be your hormones. It’s possible that hormonal changes can send your mood on a depressive roller coaster. An imbalance in your hormones can be the very cause of depression. Recent research and studies have shown that the key hormones linked with the condition are corticotropin, cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, and thyroid hormones.

How Hormones lead to Depression

Well, there are some hormones in the body that controlls your mood and emotions.

Adrenal hormones

The adrenal glands produce and release cortisol in reaction to stress. Because of that, it’s frequently referred to as the stress hormone.

Estrogen

Low amounts of estrogen may lead to hormonal sadness, particularly in women. Elevated estrogen levels may improve your mood.

Testosterone

Although primarily associated with males, testosterone is necessary for both biological sexes to function normally.

Progesterone

Progestins are probably a causal component of clinical depression, as per studies. Progestorone, when in harmony with estrogen, can lessen anxiety.
