Diving amid Fog: As visibility levels drop and individuals have a nightmare driving in foggy situations, here are a few safety recommendations.

High-beam lighting should be avoided

High-beam lights bounce off the water droplets in front of them, creating a glare that makes it difficult to see what’s in front of you. Low-beam lights are far more effective in low-visibility situations on the road.

Maintain complete concentration on the road

While driving usually necessitates continual attention to the road, staying attentive becomes critical when there is blinding fog surrounding your vehicle. To eliminate distractions, it’s better to leave your phones at home and avoid listening to loud music.

Maintain a consistent driving speed

If a car is close behind you, it may be tempting to press the accelerator and accelerate. However, it can exacerbate the issue and lead to an accident in limited visibility. It’s essential to be patient and keep driving at a moderate speed while maintaining complete control of your vehicle.

Diving amid Fog: Avoid overtaking especially on turns

It is utmost important to control your speed while driving in fog. One should not be hurry. One should avoid overtaking in heavy fog as another vehicle is not clearly visible in zero visibility of dense fog.

Pull over if there is heavy fog

If the fog is too dense and you can’t see even nearby signs and symbols on the road, it’s better to pull over off the road somewhere safe and wait for part of the fog to clear. Remember to turn on your warning lights so that other drivers can see you and pass you.

Maintain the cleanliness of your windscreen and glass

Needless to say, your vehicle’s glass and windscreen will become frosted, reducing your visibility on the road. As a result, they must be cleaned on a regular basis. Carry a cloth with you to rub them with. Using the heating in your vehicle also helps to reduce frosty windows caused by condensation inside.

  • Abide by traffic line rule
  • Do not change lane unnecessarily
