Feng shui: Feng shui is an old Chinese tradition of designing and setting up homes to balance occupants with the environment. The concept behind feng shui, which translates literally as "wind and water," is that human existence flows with its surroundings. According to Feng shui expert, Jemma, founder of Home Heart Feng Shui has shared the three interior styling trends that are 'bad feng shui.' Here are three interior styling trends that should be avoided in home as per Feng shui experts:-

1. Glass dining tables

Dining tables should ideally be built of wood, according to Home Heart Feng Shui's Jemma, to symbolise support and stability in the family. Glass dining room tables, on the other hand, signify brittleness. Agreeing with this, Director of Melody Maison and interior design expert, Anna Elkington said, 'Glass dining tables are inherently frowned upon when it comes to creating a well-balanced and harmonious dining room. Glass tables are known to create negative and nervous energy which often overwhelms a space.' Anna cautions that round tables will promote a positive flow of chi (also known as energy), whereas rectangular tables with sharp corners can produce a harsh mood.

2. Art deco mirrors

To reflect your entire self, mirrors should be made of solid glass, according to Jemma. 'Looking back at a broken and distorted reflection can confuse and disrupt the flow of chi, leaving you unsettled,' she said. However, Anna Elkington of Melody Maison advises choosing a larger mirror to reduce this distortion if you're still set on using one as a hallway mirror concept. However, she advises seeking advice from a feng shui specialist before choosing a mirror for your room.

3. Oversized low-hanging pendant lights

As per experts, low-hanging lights should be avoided in the bedroom because they should be an oasis of calm and provide the ability to escape from everyday life. Therefore, low-hanging lights can lead to pressure and mental stress. 'In feng shui terms. this is a poison arrow putting downward pressure on you while you sleep,' explains Jemma at Home Heart Feng Shui.  Besides low-hanging lights, you can add lamps, a bright ceiling light, reading lights and dim lights, which can help to get a good sleep.
