Budget 2023: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is presenting her fifth budget for the financial year 2023-24 today. This year’s budget is special. This budget is the last full budget of the Modi government 2.0 before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It is expected that the government may announce some reforms and initiatives to support the economy amid the global economic downturn.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said leading industry players will partner in conducting inter-disciplinary research, and develop cutting-edge applications & scalable problem solutions in the areas of agriculture, health, and sustainable cities. She also said that Govt’s efforts since 2014 have ensured all citizens, a better quality of life & life of dignity.

- All cities and towns will be enabled for 100% mechanical de-sludging of septics tanks & sewers to transition from manhole to machine hole mode.
- The outlay for PM Awaas Yojana being enhanced by 66% to over Rs 79,000 crores.
- PMPBTG Development mission will be started to saturate PBTG habitations. Focus on basic facilities in order to ameliorate the social-economic condition of the Particularly Tribal Groups. In the next three years, Rs 15,000 crore will be made available to implement the scheme.
- Tourism promotion will be carried out on a mission basis. Focus will be on active engagement of states, the convergence of government programmes, and public-private partnerships.

- Through the challenge mode, 50 tourist spots will be chosen to be developed as a comprehensive package for local and international tourism.
- States will be encouraged to establish a ‘Unity Mall’ in the state capital or the most popular tourist site in the state to promote and sell ‘One District, One Product’ and GI products, as well as other handicrafts.
- Economic empowerment of women is one possibility that can be transformative in reaching our vision. Major focus on- Inclusive Development, Reaching the last mile, Infrastructure and investment, Unleashing the potential, Green Growth, Youth Power, and Finance Sector.
