Ingredients

  • 1-2 tablespoon of Ghee

  • 1½ cups of Whole wheat flour

  • 1 cup of Toor dal

  • 1 to 1¼ cups Jaggery (adjust to taste)

  • A pinch of Salt

  • ½ teaspoon of Cardamom powder

  • A pinch of Nutmeg (optional)

  • Water (needed to knead)

Step By Step Guide

Make The Dough

First, combine wheat flour with a little water and a pinch of salt. Knead it into a soft dough, then cover it and set aside for about 30 minutes.

Prepare The Sweet Mixture (Puran)

In the next step, boil toor dal until it turns soft. Once cooked, drain the excessive water. Crush the dal and gently cook it with sugar or jaggery, a little ghee, and cardamom powder until the mixture becomes dry and thick.

Give Shape To The Dough

Now, you have to divide the soft dough into small balls.

Fill The Dough With Puran

Flatten each dough ball and fill with puran mixture in the center and seal the edges tightly.

Roll The Dough And Cook The Poli On A Tawa

Following the steps mentioned above, now gently roll the stuffed dough ball into a thin circle. Take a non-stick tawa and heat it over a medium flame. Now place the poli on the tawa and spread ½ teaspoon of ghee on the upper side. Flip and cook for about a minute until it turns golden, aromatic, and crispy.

Serve

Serve the poli warm with milk or ghee. Enjoy your delicious puran poli.
