Sameer Ahmed has been making music since he was 19. Like most success stories of the 21st century, the power of the internet played a huge part in his career; 6 years ago he debuted as VDJ Royal and initially released his music through his YouTube channel. He made a name for himself in the niche of Indian Hip-Hop and reimagined popular Bollywood songs in the sounds of Hip-Hop.
His mashups and remixes piqued the interest of netizens across the globe, who were rediscovering the genre and Ahmed’s creations started going viral on a regular basis. The “Holly-Bolly Mashup” was an astounding success and made it clear that VDJ Royal was here to stay.
The track amassed over 50 Million views and opened the gates to mainstream for Sameer Ahmed. He went on to work with A-List artists like Mika Singh, Sukhbir and Urvashi Rautela and collaborating with artists across the independent music scene. His YouTube channel is close to crossing the 2-million subscribers mark and has gained a fan following on other social media platforms.
Despite all the glitz and glamour, he has stayed grounded and strives to keep his art as authentic as possible. He says, “When you start creating art, your heart and soul take control. They don’t allow you to stray from who you are, and your art changes with you. When I’m making music and visualising what I want to do, I go wherever my music takes me and experiment without limits.”.
VDJ Royal knows his way around the studio and builds off of little snippets of ideas. Inspired by the sounds around him and of yesteryear’s, he is bringing back the edgy charm of old hip-hop days to today’s landscape of fast-paced energetic sounds.
Music has become second to breathing for him, he composes, produces, and writes his track – and will soon be releasing new music. He has three singles lined up for release, “Tujhe Yaad Karta Hu Main Raaton Mein”, “9vi Class Ka Main Chaatra Tha”, and “Zindagi Adhuri”. He has collaborated with Chetan Sati, Kajal Rawat and Bro Pand
