Under the guidance of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Singh, the sum of ₹ 215 crore has been approved under the ‘Rangla Punjab Scheme’, marking it the first installment of the total budget of ₹ 585 crore dedicated under the same.
Addressing the press conference on Thursday, Punjab Finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that the ‘Rangla Punjab Scheme’ was introduced in this year’s budget, allocating exclusively ₹ 5 crore for development works in every Assembly constituency.
The finance minister stated that teams of MLAs and officials were set up to oversee the effective use of funds. He added that the first instalment of ₹213 crore has been distributed to various Panchayats based on the proposals submitted by these committees.
Additionally, the finance minister assured that these committees will continuously recommend new developments in the ‘Rangla Punjab Scheme’ if needed, and the funds will be made accordingly.
Highlighting that wide-ranging initiatives guided by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s visionary development agenda are in progress, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema noted that ₹334 crore had already been released to Panchayats, Zila Parishads and Panchayat Samitis. He assured that the growth of both rural and urban areas is steadily advancing, and no village, town, or city will be overlooked.
