Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the state government is moving with newfound dedication towards ensuring the overall development, conservation, as well as welfare of children in the state. With children at the focal point of their governance agenda, the Mann-led state administration is giving paramount significance to children belonging to weaker economic sections and orphaned children.
Based on the vision of inclusive growth under the guidance of the Chief Minister, the government has increased efforts in targeted welfare interventions that aim at empowerment and also the provision of instant benefits. The Sponsorship Scheme, which provides economic support of ₹4,000 per child per month, is one of the schemes conducted by the government for economically backward, destitute, and also orphaned children. This also includes children from families that, owing to financial constraints, fail to provide adequate care. It also includes orphans living with guardians.
This educational support will continue until each child reaches the age of 18 years, thereby providing them continuity in their educational pursuit and stability in the most critical years of their life. Incidentally, a total of 5,475 children in the state of Punjab have so far benefited from this social cause.
Commenting on the scheme, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said, “The main idea is not just to provide economic assistance to the children. The basic idea is to ensure a bright and dignified future for the children by helping them continue their education, fulfill their dreams, and become a part of the mainstream social setup.”
Reaffirming the commitment to CM Mann’s promise, she said that the ultimate goal of the Punjab Government is to raise educated, independent, and responsible citizens. Through sincere and compassionate governance, the CM Mann-led government is making sure that no child is left behind and that every child has the chance to make their valuable contributions to the progress of the state of Punjab.
