Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Singh will visit the grieving family of a young basketball player, Hardik Rathi, who tragically passed away when a basketball pole collapsed on him during practice on Tuesday.
CM Mann will arrive in Rohtak this afternoon, offering condolences and solidarity to the bereaved family.
The freak accident took place on the morning of November 25, 2025, at a sports ground in Lakhan Majra village. The 16-year-old player, Hardik Rathi, was playing alone and was attempting to do a ‘dunk’. While he was hanging onto the hoop, the iron basketball pole abruptly collapsed and struck his chest. The incident, recorded on a nearby CCTV camera, shows the tragedy that occurred on Tuesday morning. Passer-by and other players rushed him to PGI Rohtak hospital. Despite all the efforts, he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Hardik Rathi was an upcoming star in basketball. Hardik had made his mark on the court, winning multiple medals in youth championships, including a silver at the Sub-Junior National Championship and a bronze at other major tournaments. Coaches and teammates recall a fiercely dedicated player whose passion for the game was unmatched, a young talent who dreamed of wearing India’s jersey and shining on the international stage
