In a distinctive show of gratitude towards the bravery and valor of the Indian Armed Forces, Kanpur MP Ramesh Awasthi has announced the first edition of the ‘Operation Sindoor Cup 2025’, set to take place on June 29 at the historic Green Park International Stadium in Kanpur. The highlight of this tribute event will be a cricket match between Members of Parliament XI and Army XI.
MP Awasthi, the chief organizer of the event, said the initiative is dedicated to honoring the courage and sacrifices of Indian soldiers, especially in the backdrop of the recent Operation Sindoor, launched after the Pahalgam terror attack.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Operation Sindoor has become a symbol of India’s modernization and military resolve,” Awasthi stated during a press briefing. “This cricket match is our way of making the valor and sacrifice of our soldiers immortal.”
A Patriotic Celebration Beyond the Game
The event will be graced by Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, and promises to be much more than just a cricket match. The Indian Army Jazz Band will perform a musical tribute prior to the match, and aerial flower showers by civil aviators will add a visual spectacle to the occasion.
Notably, celebrity singer Swati Mishra, renowned for her patriotic track “Apne Apne Ram”, will deliver a live performance.
Entry to the event is completely free, with 15,000 spectator passes being distributed across six city centers and the MP’s office in Kanpur. Organizers are reportedly working at full pace to ensure the event’s grandeur and seamless execution.
Unity On The Pitch
Ramesh Awasthi confirmed that the MPs XI team will feature both ruling and opposition party lawmakers, emphasizing the unity behind the tribute. Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari is set to captain the MPs XI squad.
Top leaders from both the central and state governments are expected to attend the historic match as guests, marking their presence in solidarity with the Armed Forces.
Organizers
The Operation Sindoor Cup 2025 is being organized under the leadership of MP Ramesh Awasthi, with Kanpur Commissioner Akhil Kumar serving as the event’s co-convener.
“This is not just a match. It’s a movement — to salute our soldiers, celebrate their heroism, and ignite patriotic pride among citizens,” Awasthi concluded.
