Take 3 g of this powder and consume it in the morning and evening. Consuming this powder provides relief from hiccups. Acharya Balkrishna pledges that it is a panacea for hiccups.

  • Holding your breath for 5 to 10 seconds may help. Close your mouth and nose while doing this, but be careful not to hold your breath for too long.
  • Drinking cold water can sometimes stop hiccups, and gargling with water may also be effective.
  • Eating a spoonful of sugar is another common remedy.
  • Sucking on a lemon can help as well.
  • Sticking out your tongue and holding it may relieve hiccups.
  • Breathing into a paper bag is another method people use.
  • Being suddenly surprised or shocked can sometimes stop hiccups.

  • Consuming excessive alcohol.
  • Overeating.

If hiccups persist for a long time and do not stop on their own, it could be because a hair is stuck in your throat, a thyroid problem, or stomach acid escaping into the respiratory tract. Throat problems can also cause hiccups.

If hiccups do not go away even after 48 hours (i.e., 2 days) and continue, then it is necessary to consult a doctor.
