Faridabad: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann bemoaned the catastrophic 2025 floods that hit as many as 1400 villages and took the lives of 55 people, leaving thousands without houses.
The Chief Minister exclaimed that the Punjab government has implemented groundbreaking measures for the well-being of victims of the floods. Despite the 45-day deadline, the state government distributed Rs 20,000 per acre to compensate for flood damage, the highest in the country, to the farmers within 30 days after the assessment through Special Girdawari.
Addressing the 32nd meeting of the Northern Zonal Council held recently in Faridabad, Mann expressed his displeasure over any proposal to raise the Full Reservoir Levels (FRLs) of Bhakra and Pong dams.
Bhagwant Singh Mann further stated that the severe floods experienced in the years 2019, 2023, and 2025 have once again highlighted the critical importance of maintaining the current Full Reservoir Levels (FRLs). These events have underscored that adhering to the prescribed FRLs is essential to manage water resources effectively and preventing future flood-related damage.
CM Mann said that the calamity had severely disrupted the lives of many, but by the blessings of the Guru Sahibs, the state has managed to deal with the crisis situation.
