Since taking the oath back in 2017, the CM Yogi-led government has tackled crime and lawbreakers with reportedly 15,000 police encounters resulting in eliminating 256 hardened criminals, 31,960 lawbreakers arrested, and properties worth over ₹20,000 crores linked to mafias have been seized under the Gangster Act.

According to the state government reports, between July 2023 and December 2024, the UP government’s ‘Operation Conviction’ aimed at hardened criminals, which included 51 death penalties, over 6,000 life sentences and more than 1,000 convicts being sentenced to 20 years.

News Agency PTI reported that the CM Yogi-led government takes a firm stand on crimes against women and girls; wherein, in one instance, the police neutralized Shehzad alias Nikki in Meerut on October 14, 2025, who had a reward of ₹25,000 for heinous crimes against a minor girl and under Mission Shakti 5.0. Earlier, strong action was taken against criminals involved in firing outside actress Disha Patani’s residence in Bareilly.

Additionally, the response time of Dial 112 has been significantly reduced. Before 2017, the average response time of police action in emergencies was reportedly 24 minutes, which has gradually dropped to roughly 9.44 minutes, revitalising their stance on ‘zero policy’ against crimes.

Some other notable reforms, like the anti-Romeo squad, were launched in 2017. The state administration conducted checks around schools, malls, colleges, and public places to put a check on eve-teasing and women’s safety in public spheres. Under Mission Shakti 5.0, the government formed three women’s PAC battalions. These units, alongside other police infrastructure like mobile forensic vans and Pink Booths, further strengthened the zero tolerance against crimes against women.

Recently, CM Yogi interacted with 23 trainee officers, calling the police station the ‘backbone of policing’ and advising the young trainees to gain in-depth comprehension on administering, functioning, management and local disputes.

Revolutionizing the governance, CM Yogi-led Uttar Pradesh has set an example to tackle the law and order in the state. With CM Yogi’s zero-tolerance policy, there has been a deep sense of safety among the masses, making a positive change in the infamous Uttar Pradesh.
