Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwan Mann Singh visited the bereaving family of Hardik Rathi today, who tragically lost his life when a basketball pole collapsed on him during practice on Tuesday.
He offered his condolences to the family who lost their young star. He also urged the Haryana Government to help the distressed family and offer them support and resources.
CM Mann also stated that this incident brought attention to the lack of development in the sports sector. He said, ‘How will sports flourish if the very playgrounds meant for youth turn into sites of accidents?’.
He stressed the urgent need for a nationwide assessment of sports facilities, ensuring that every ground, court, and stadium meets proper safety standards.
The accident took place on Tuesday, when the 16-year-old Hardik Rathi was playing alone at the sports ground in Lakhan Majra village. He was playing alone when the basketball pole collapsed and struck his chest. The accident was caught on the nearby CCTV. The by-passers rushed him to the nearest hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
