Ghee is a common part of our diet and is known for its health benefits. However, Ayurvedic expert Acharya Balkrishna cautions that ghee should not be applied directly to rotis, as doing so can be more harmful than beneficial. While many people enjoy spreading ghee on their rotis, Balkrishna emphasises that there is a proper way to consume ghee to maximise its health benefits.
Disadvantages of eating rotis smeared with ghee
Acharya Balakrishna says that you should not eat rotis with ghee applied to them. This is because when you apply ghee to a roti, a layer of ghee forms on it, which makes it difficult to digest. That’s why you should eat dry rotis instead of those coated with ghee. Acharya Balkrishna acknowledges that a small amount of ghee can be applied to rotis to prevent them from drying out after cooking. However, he suggests that there are better ways to keep rotis soft without relying heavily on ghee.
How to make rotis soft ?
Acharya Balakrishna advises that instead of applying ghee to the rotis after they are cooked, add a little ghee to the flour while kneading the dough. This will make rotis soft and prevent them from becoming layered. This will also make them easier to digest.
