‘You’re PM Of India, Not Just BJP’: Mamata Banerjee Hits Back At PM Modi Over Remarks On Attack On BJP MP, MLA

CM Mamata Banerjee posted on X, "It is unfortunate and deeply concerning that the Prime Minister of India has chosen to politicise a natural disaster without waiting for a proper investigation, especially while people in North Bengal are grappling with the aftermath of devastating floods and landslides."

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the latter’s “responsibility lies in nation-building, not narrative-building.” Her remarks came after the Prime Minister wrote on X about the attack on a BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh during their visit to flood-affected areas in West Bengal. The BJP alleged that TMC goons had attacked the leaders.

CM Mamata Banerjee posted on X, “It is unfortunate and deeply concerning that the Prime Minister of India has chosen to politicise a natural disaster without waiting for a proper investigation, especially while people in North Bengal are grappling with the aftermath of devastating floods and landslides… I urge the Prime Minister: Listen to the elected state government, not just your party colleagues. You are the Prime Minister of India, not just of BJP. Your responsibility lies in nation-building, not narrative-building. At this critical hour, let us not deepen divides. Let us stand united beyond party lines, to serve the people who need us the most. Let’s leave politics for another day.”

Earlier, the prime minister wrote on X, “The manner in which our Party colleagues, including a sitting MP and MLA, were attacked in West Bengal for serving the people affected by floods and landslides is outright appalling. It highlights the insensitivity of the TMC as well as the absolutely pathetic law and order situation in the state.

I wish the West Bengal Government and TMC were more focused on helping people rather than indulging in violence in such a challenging situation. I call upon BJP Karyakartas to continue working among the people and assist the ongoing rescue operations.”

On the attack on BJP MP Khagen Murmu and BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, “When an area is affected by floods… the Chief Minister of Bengal blames nature and distances herself from the situation. Attacking any public representative from any party, wherever they go, is no excuse for people’s anger. Our fight will be against their policies and politics, but under no circumstances do we have the right to attack anyone… While people are crying out in distress, the Chief Minister of Bengal is celebrating festivals.”

BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh alleged that he along with Malda North MP Khagen Murmu were attacked in Nagrakata in North Bengal, while distributing relief materials for people affected by the flood and landslides in the state.
