Yogi Government’s Reform Drive: Compulsory Retirement For UP Police Above 50

The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has made a significant decision to bolster the police force. Police officers aged above 50 will now face mandatory retirement within the UP Police.

The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has made a significant decision to bolster the police force. Police officers aged above 50 will now face mandatory retirement within the UP Police. The process of screening for this purpose has already commenced.

Police personnel who reach the age of 50 by March 30, 2023, will undergo a thorough evaluation of their track record, which will determine whether they are eligible for compulsory retirement. ADG Establishment Sanjay Singhal has issued this directive to all IG Ranges/ADG Zones, the seven Police Commissioners, and all police departments.

By November 30, a decision on the compulsory retirement of police officers above 50 will be made after a careful review of their track record. The list of such officers will be forwarded to the headquarters. Additionally, orders have been given to provide the list of such officers deployed in the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) by November 20.

Reportedly, those police officers with a history of corruption and misconduct will also face retirement as a punitive measure. Furthermore, the government has decided to expel officers and personnel who have previously been rejected from the police force. ADG Establishment has requested the track record of these officers to facilitate decisions in this regard.

The screening process for these officers will involve an evaluation of their Annual Confidential Report (ACR). This assessment will consider the officer’s efficiency, character, ability, evaluations, and behaviour towards the public as criteria for either retaining their position or retiring them.

In recent years, the Yogi government has enforced compulsory retirement for hundreds of police officers to enhance the efficiency of the UP Police. CM Yogi had recently emphasized that officers or employees who lack decision-making abilities will be replaced, while capable and promising officers will be entrusted with responsibilities to improve the working style of the UP Police.

A Shift Towards BJP's Aggressive Hindutva Amid Opposition's Leadership Crisis

The Maharashtra election may further push the Congress down as it has lost the election at a time when it needed a win most desperately. Though the Congress succeeded in pushing the BJP to a corner and stopping it at less than a majority on its own, it failed to make any headway further.
