UP News Updates: The Uttar Pradesh government made a significant decision regarding old-age pensions at its cabinet meeting on Friday. According to this decision, the state would henceforth offer old age pensions without the need to fill out a form. This pension will be provided to all senior individuals over the age of 60 in each family. So far, 67.50 lakh senior citizens have received this pension.
One Family, One Identity
The discussion stated that under the One Family, One Identity program, the government will collect data on every family over the age of 60. This data will be used to disburse old-age pensions. In addition to old-age pensions, several other key decisions have been made in the state. Asim Arun, Social Welfare Minister (Independent Charge), indicated that under the “One Family, One Identity” system, beneficiaries will be automatically identified using their family identity card, and pensions will be approved with their authorization.
Old-Age Pension Scheme
Asim Arun added that the system will digitally track persons reaching the age of 60 and commence the permission procedure via SMS, WhatsApp, or phone call. When digital consent is not obtained, officials or local coordinators will approach beneficiaries in person. Asim Arun indicated that pension approval will be completed within 15 days of assent, with payments deposited straight into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.
Comprehensive Employment Protection
The cabinet also authorized revisions to the Shops and Commercial Establishments Act of 1962, which expanded its application to the entire state, including rural areas. According to employment Minister Anil Rajbhar, the redesigned framework will provide comprehensive employment protection without imposing additional burdens on small businesses.
The Cabinet also accepted a proposal to simplify tenancy rules by eliminating stamp duty and registration fees for rental agreements lasting up to ten years. This move attempts to encourage written and registered rental contracts while reducing disputes originating from informal arrangements. The stamp fee on one-year rental agreements of up to ₹2 lakh has been cut to ₹500, according to the statement.
