The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) on Sunday announced plans to develop a new urban centre in Hathras district, a major initiative for regional development. The proposed development will come up along the Yamuna Expressway, a major infrastructure route connecting Agra to Greater Noida.
To kick off the project, YEIDA will prepare a detailed project report (DPR), which will form the basis for the urban and industrial development of this new city. For this work, the authority will appoint a consultant, who will be selected on the basis of technical and financial qualifications, as prescribed in the official rules.
The announcement is a major step towards the strategic development of areas around the Yamuna Expressway under the second phase of YEIDA’s Master Plan 2031. The scheme was launched in March as per the directive of the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Under the initiative, YEIDA has received permission to develop industrial, residential and commercial land in several cities like Hathras, Mathura, Aligarh and Agra. The new urban centre at Hathras will be one of the four centres to be built along the expressway.
The project aims to connect the Hathras urban centre with other ongoing projects in the region, especially the Noida International Airport, which will play a key role in the development, officials said. The scheme seeks to make Hathras a major hub of commerce and industry as well as a suburb of Agra, allowing it to take advantage of its nearby urban markets and tourist destinations.
