Wrestlers’ Protest: The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has backed wrestlers protesting at Jantar Mantar in the national capital Delhi. SKM declared that it would stage protests in favour of the wrestlers nationwide, including in Delhi. Following SKM’s declaration, security was increased at Jantar Mantar in the national capital on Sunday.

For the past ten days, wrestlers have been demonstrating at Jantar Mantar, seeking the arrest and firing of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh. According to a statement issued by the SKM on Saturday, May 7, numerous politicians from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh would visit the protest site at Jantar Mantar and express their support for the protesting wrestlers.

SKM had previously staged a year-long farmers’ demonstration on the national capital’s borders against the now-repealed farm laws.

‘Complete sympathy, support for wrestlers’: Anil Vij

Haryana Home and Health Minister Anil Vij expressed his support for the protesting wrestlers at Jantar Mantar on Friday.

The Haryana Home Minister told news agency ANI that he sympathises with and supports the protesting wrestlers.

He also informed the wrestlers that he was willing to mediate and negotiate on their behalf with the administration.

Vij stated, “As the Sports Minister, I sympathise with and support the protesting wrestlers. If they want me to speak with the government, I am willing to do so.”

Thorough, impartial probe underway, says Anurag Thakur

In addition, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur stated on Friday that the Delhi Police is conducting an impartial investigation into the Wrestling Federation’s president and is striving to meet the requests of the protesting athletes.

According to the Union Minister, there was a demand for forming a committee, and a panel was formed. The Delhi Police have also filed two FIRs, and they are undertaking an unbiased inquiry.

IOA president PT Usha met protesting wrestlers

On Wednesday, PT Usha, President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), met with the protesting wrestlers at Jantar Mantar.

The protesting wrestlers demanded that the Sports Ministry make the inspection committee’s conclusions public.

The protesting wrestlers stated unequivocally that they will not back down until justice is served and Brij Bhushan is removed from his position as WFI president and imprisoned.

Earlier, following the Supreme Court’s notice, the Delhi Police registered two FIRs against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on April 28.
