New Delhi: A day after Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha condemned the ongoing wrestlers’ protest, athlete Neeraj Chopra came out to support the protestors asking for a “quick action to ensure justice.”
“It hurts me to see our athletes on the streets demanding justice. They have worked hard to represent our great nation and make us proud. As a nation, we are responsible for safeguarding the integrity and dignity of every individual, athlete or not. What’s happening should never happen,” said Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra.
“This is a sensitive issue, and must be dealt with in an impartial and transparent manner. Pertaining authorities must take quick action in order to ensure that justice is served,” he added in a post on Twitter.

PT Usha called the protest “indiscipline”
Despite PT Usha’s remarks against the protest, many athletes have extended support to the wrestlers who have levelled charges of sexual assault against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

On Thursday, IOA president PT Usha said the wrestlers should not have directly came to the roads. She said, “Wrestlers staging protest on streets amounts to indiscipline.”
PT Usha’s remarks were slammed by many, while the protesting athletes found them poignant. Ace wrestlers, Olympic medalist and one of the protestors Bajrang Punia said PT Usha was his icon but her comment was hurtful.
Punia said, “PT Usha has been our icon. We felt hurt by what she said. I want to ask her – when her academy was being demolished and she had raised her concerns on social media, then was that not tarnishing India’s image?”
