New Delhi: Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur Friday said the wrestlers’ demands were being fulfilled citing that a committee has been formed already. Owing to which, said the minister, players should allow the Delhi Police to carry out the investigation.

“A demand was there to form a committee and it was constituted, FIR has been registered by Delhi police, SC also gave its verdict. Delhi Police is conducting a fair investigation. I request the players that their demands are being fulfilled and they should allow the investigation to be completed,” says Anurag Thakur.

Earlier the protestors accused the union minister of not taking action in the matter. “We ended our protest after talking to Union Sports Minister (Anurag Thakur), and all the athletes had told him about the sexual harassment. He by forming a committee tried to suppress the matter there; no action was taken that time,” said grappler Vinesh Phogat.

In the latest, farmers leader Naresh Tikait on Thursday said that people from all Khaps will head toward Delhi on May 7 after Delhi Police allegedly misbehaved with protesting wrestlers.

“Wrestlers protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar were misbehaved by the police, due to which a panchayat was immediately convened at Sauram, the historic Sarvkhap headquarters, in which representatives of the Khaps participated and unanimously decided to march to Delhi on May 7,” Naresh Tikait tweeted.

This came after the protest slewed late at night on Wednesday when cops allegedly ‘misbehaved’ with athletes protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

“We will return all the medals won at the international level and those given by the government. To what level, will we tolerate the humiliation? We are being humiliated, dragged to the ground,” said Vinesh Phogat.
