In India, the Constitution clearly says that children under 14 years old are not allowed to work in mines, factories, or other dangerous jobs.

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) also says that anyone under 18 should not do hazardous work.

Key Agreements to Stop Child Labour

Thursday, June 12, 2025, marks the 26th anniversary of the day the world agreed on rules to stop the worst forms of child labour.

This day is a chance for everyone, governments, organizations, and communities to work harder to follow and support two important child labour agreements:

  • Convention No. 182, which aims to stop the worst kinds of child labour
  • Convention No. 138, which sets the minimum age for children to start working

Even though there has been progress to stop child labour, UNICEF says that almost 138 million children around the world still do some kind of work. Out of these, 54 million children do very dangerous work.
