In Gujarat’s Tapi district, a case has been filed against a woman sarpanch for reportedly assaulting and stripping her son’s friend. An officer shared this information on Friday. The FIR names her husband and two others as accused, although no arrests have been made yet.
The female sarpanch, Sunita Chaudhary of Borkhadi village in Vyara taluka, objected to her son’s relationship with a 26-year-old girl. According to Police Inspector N. S. Chauhan, the complainant, a divorcee, had developed affection for Sunita’s unmarried son about a year ago. Recently, they began residing together in a rented house in Vyara town.
The altercation unfolded on Thursday evening when Sunita, her husband Ajit, and two others met the couple in Kapura village. Subsequently, they persuaded their son to leave and then took the girl to an isolated area near Khushalpura village, where they allegedly assaulted her.
The victim was reportedly subjected to physical violence, including being beaten with a stick by the woman sarpanch while the others restrained her. Additionally, the victim’s hair was cut using scissors, and Sunita’s husband reportedly kicked her. Sunita allegedly threatened the victim, warning her to stay away from her son, under threat of dire consequences.
Inspector Chauhan confirmed, “We have filed an FIR against Choudhary and three others, including her husband, for assault and criminal intimidation. However, no arrests have been made as of now.”
