Ujjain Woman Raped On Footpath In Broad Daylight, Public Recorded Videos

A recent incident of rape on a footpath in a broad daylight has jolted the Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh.

A viral video from Ujjain has sent shockwaves across the state. The video shows a woman being raped on a footpath in broad daylight and nobody comes forward to rescue her. People instead chose to watch the brutal incident as silent spectators and many even videographed it. Taking cognizance of the incident, MP police took quick action and arrested the perpetrator.

Relationship turned into trauma

The woman, 40, is a rag picker and a mother of an 18-year-old son whereas the accused is 28-year-old. As per the reports, she left her family eight years ago and came to Ujjain where she met the accused named Lokesh who is a greengrocer.

The woman told the police in her statement that she and Lokesh were in a relationship and he promised to marry her and spend his entire life with her. It is due to that faith in him that he got her drunk and raped her on the roadside. The incident took place on Wednesday, September 6 in an area that has quite a decent footfall.

No complaint from the victim

Notably, the victim did not file any complaint against this incident but the police came across it via the videos that were circulated. Lokesh has been arrested and an FIR has been lodged against him.

Congress MP and leader of the opposition of the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi took to X (Twitter) to raise concern over the matter. In his tweet, he called this act of brutality against women a blot on humanity.
