Mumbai: A woman resident doctor was reportedly attacked by an intoxicated patient and his family members at Mumbai's Sion Hospital early Sunday morning, according to doctors. The incident has caused widespread anger, especially following the recent tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor at a Kolkata hospital, which has already deeply shocked the nation.

Early Morning Incident

The assault took place at around 3:30 a.m. while the doctor was on duty in the hospital ward. The patient, who had facial injuries, arrived at the hospital accompanied by a group of 5-6 intoxicated men, believed to be his relatives. As the doctor began treating the patient, he and his relatives verbally abused and threatened her before physically attacking her. The doctor sustained injuries while trying to defend herself. Concerns Over Security

Dr. Akshay More, head of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (BMC MARD), expressed serious concerns over the attack, noting that such incidents raise significant security issues in hospitals, especially in a major city like Mumbai.

Legal Action and Demand for Safety

The assailants, including the patient and his relatives, fled the scene after the attack. The doctor has reported the incident to the Sion Police Station, where an FIR is being filed.
