Following a snowfall in the mountains, the plains are now experiencing a spell of cool and chilly weather. According to the weather department, on Friday, the maximum temperature remained at 23 degrees, while the minimum temperature dropped to 6.2 degrees. Other states also witnessed a decline in temperatures, leading to the declaration of winter vacations in schools in several regions. Recently, the governments of Jharkhand and Punjab issued notices for winter vacations in schools due to the cold wave. Additionally, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi have also announced the dates for winter vacations.
Delhi government has declared winter vacations in all private and government schools from January 1 to January 6, 2024. This year, Delhi schools will observe a short winter break of only six days. This decision comes in light of air pollution concerns in the national capital, prompting the early declaration of winter vacations in November.
Bihar Education Department is expected to announce the dates for winter vacations in schools soon, advising students and parents to stay updated with school communications.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Education Department has announced winter holidays in all government, private, aided, and recognized schools. All schools will remain closed from December 24, 2023, to December 31, 2023.
The Jharkhand government has decided to keep schools closed until December 31. The official order states that all government, non-government, aided/unaided (including minority schools), and private schools in the state will remain closed until December 31, 2023. These schools will remain closed from December 26 to December 31. However, keeping in mind the board exams, schools may continue classes for 10th and 12th grades as needed. The Jharkhand Board exams for Class 10 and 12 will commence on February 6 and conclude on February 26, 2023.
